01 - Thesis Begins
After attending the first Thesis class session on Tuesday, I went back to my pre-thesis paper to review its contents as well as my initial prototype. The goal of this was to go back and see what I could use towards my thesis. My pre-thesis paper contains a lot of relevant background information on my topic. You can view my Pre-Thesis Deliverables in this blog post.
Since there are only about 13 weeks in total to produce my thesis project and paper, I put together a schedule, which you can view here. This schedule will be the framework I use to keep myself on track and to ensure that all requirements are met for the thesis paper, project, and defense presentation.
Thesis Accountability Partners
I am partnering with my friends Casey Judge and Alexandros Lotsos as a Thesis Accountability Triad. We will be responsible to each other for:
- Ensuring we meet our self-imposed deadlines.
- Review each other's paper and progress when necessary.
- Provide encouragement and support when necessary.
Advisor Search Update
At this point, I have narrowed my potential advisor to the following three people from NYU's Tandon School of Engineering:
- Rosemary Ampuero - Assistant Dean of Student Affairs
- Nicole Johnson - Assistant Dean for Opportunity Programs
- Brittney Bahlman - Director, Student Affairs and Student Activities
I have with two out of three potential advisors in the last couple of weeks. Each person has experience working with students or has worked to cultivate student engagement presently or in the past. Their experiences in the area that I'm doing research in will be beneficial to my thesis. I will be contacting my preferred advisor by the end of the week to confirm their interest and availability as well as to set up a first meeting.
Project Proposal Presentation
This week, I also prepared a project proposal presentation, which can be downloaded and viewed here. This presentation was put together to highlight my thesis progress, significant relevant research and projects, methods I plan to use, as well as to discuss my thesis timeline and schedule.
You may see a brief overview of my thesis project (including thesis question, statement, target audience, etc.) in this blog post.
